I know he said it, but I don't really buy that. He's referring to the exploratory jamming that became associated with it. It's a song. It's a great song, even if you omit the jamming.

Change even if to when and you are spot on.....
Great song when you omit all the jamming.
If they had kept it 10 or 12 minutes or less, I would be on board with it being a great song.
20+ minutes of DS?? no longer a song at that point, just alot of self indulgent noise. YMMV, of course.
